So, as a fablabber, there are a few things you should know before getting started. This blog is the primary resource for finding out when and where things will happen. You can subscribe to this blog or add yourself to the fab lab mailing list to receive updates on scheduling, news, and other fablab-related stuff.

some more on email

There are a few other email addresses of which you might want to take note:

  • boston.fablab@gmail.com - this is the email address for everyone on the Fab Lab mailing list. It is also the address under which we've registered various, other online services for your use (things like Flickr, del.icio.us, and Google Calendar).
  • boston.fablab-admin@mit.edu - this is a mailing list for the people qualified to open up and run the Fab Lab unsupervised. They would be the one's opening up the lab for you. If you think you should be on this list and aren't, either contact the list or add yourself to it.
  • boston.fablab-web@mit.edu - And this is a mailing list for the people responsible for maintaining the website. contact us or email them directly if you're having technical difficulties with the site or wiki.
  • setc@tech-center-enlightentcity.tv - this email will put you in touch with the South End Technology Center, the community organization housing the Fab Lab

On the technical side of running the lab and using the equipment, we've set up a wiki to help document everything from safety and instructions on using the machines to tips, tricks, and starter projects1

We've also set up a few online services for you to use.

  • To store photos, we've set up a Flickr account for you to upload photos of things you take in the Fab Lab. You can either register your own account and add pictures to the FabFolk group or use the Flickr account we've created and upload the photos.
  • To bookmark sites you think people involved in the Fab Lab will find useful or interesting, you can use del.icio.us and either bookmark the site as "for:boston.fablab" or you can login as boston.fablab on del.icio.us and bookmark the site yourself.
